  • Turning away from the Brazilian breeze that characterized 2012's Sub Rosa and the rootsy ramble of 2013's Borne Away, Jesse Harris doesn't necessarily take an easy route on 2015's No Wrong No Right, but the album sure does roll easy. Teaming with the Brooklyn duo Star Rover, Harris flits between instrumentals and sophisticated coffeehouse folk, his voice rarely rising above a murmur as he coos over seventh chords. Sometimes, the rhythms are a little limber and their energy is mirrored by tasteful squalls of electric guitars -- particularly on the nicely muted Marc Ribot tribute "Nothing's Gone But the Night" and the rangy title track -- but the appeal of the record is that low-key interplay between Harris and Star Rover, not to mention the singer/songwriter's understated elegance. He may have a quiet presence but he's never lazy; his deliberate hush is alluring, particularly when he's teamed with such a sympathetic band as he is here. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
