Performer Notes
  • NOW IS THE TIME FOR FISHING was compiled by Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger.
  • Personnel: Sam Larner (vocals).
  • Audio Remasterer: Tony Engle.
  • Recording information: 1958-1960.
  • Editors: Ewan MacColl; Peggy Seeger.
  • This classic comes from perhaps the finest of all English source singers. Larner (1878-1965) was at sea much of his life, but his repertoire was extremely varied. These recordings from 1959 and 1960 are a wonderful mix of songs both famous and less known, with reminiscence, rhymes and sea lore (once a Folkways LP of the same title). ~ John Storm Roberts, Original Music
