An album not involving his Frog Brigade or any other of Les Claypool's many side-projects, OF WHALES AND WOE finds the Primus singer/bassist sticking to a truly solo setting. Although other musicians are present on these 12 tunes, the focus is entirely on the ever-eccentric Claypool, particularly his lauded bass-playing skills, which are best showcased on the furious funk workout "One Better" and the twangy "Iowan Gal." A fun, confident disc that exceeds many of his non-Primus outings, OF WHALES AND WOE is a must-have for any fans of Colonel Claypool.
