Opalo Negro is the full-length debut by technicolor Spanish indie pop outfit Papa Topo. Helmed by songwriter/bandleader Adri? Arbona Orero, the band has seen a number of incarnations since its humble beginnings in 2008, eventually settling in as a quartet with vocalist J?lia Fandos, guitarist Oscar Huerta, and bassist S?nia Montoya joining in. Produced and mixed by fellow Spaniard Sergio P?rez (SVPER), Opalo Negro is a crafty and diverse set that detours through disco, new wave, classical, and easy listening without ever losing sight of Orero's sunny pop eclecticism. Originally released as a single in 2013, "Sangre en los Zapatos (Mi Amor)" is pure dancefloor fun and acts as a centerpiece, while other new highlights like "Davall Ses Flors Des Taronger" and "Je Suis un Monstre" skip off in different, though no less pleasurable directions. ~ Timothy Monger
