Flush with the success of her new Columbia contract, and the smash hit "Come On-A My House," in 1951 Rosemary Clooney recorded the 16 transcriptions sides reissued on this CD from Swing Factory. Transcription collections from Clooney's contemporaries usually offer fascinating insights into what singers could do in unusual circumstances -- small groups usually culled from the best talent of proper big bands -- on dates closer to afterhours jam sessions than proper studio dates. This collection, however, finds her backed by a merely serviceable studio orchestra. Clooney still excels on several of these sides, indulging her vocal jazz side on "You Make Me Feel So Young," "This Can't Be Love," and a tenderly playful "Too Much Conversation." Original Studio Radio Transcriptions supersedes the Hindsight collection The Uncollected Rosemary Clooney, 1951-1952. ~ John Bush
