  • Like many AMERICAN IDOL contestants before him, singer Phil Stacey landed a recording contract after being eliminated in the latter rounds of the show (in this case the sixth season). The resulting 2008 debut is a pristine country-rocker with crunchy guitars and pop hooks galore that, on first blush, could pass for a collection of stadium rock anthems. There's no mistaking the honky-tonk twang in Stacey's voice, though, and the songs, some of them provided by country hit-makers Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher, are a fine example of the contemporary Nashville sound.
