The Pianists' Touch collects two albums previously issued under their composers' names, recorded in the late '50s and featuring the playing of soon to be legendary and already world-renowned saxophonist John Coltrane. Coltrane's gentle majesty graces the tunes of Tadd Dameron (in a set originally released as Mating Call) and Tommy Flanagan (on an album released originally as The Cats). In addition to Coltrane's always brilliant blowing, the collection is tempered by the gloriously spare piano/bass/drums melancholia of "How Long Has This Been Going On?" ~ Fred Thomas
