PORTAL, the third album from British-born avant-folk guitarist Alexander Tucker is his most abstract and experimental recording to date. Discarding all but the loosest notions of conventional song structures, Tucker embarks on a series of sprawling acoustic jams awash in menacing soundscapes and psychedelic production touches. His guitar work evokes the darker meanderings of Jerry Garcia, while fractured compositions like "Omnibaron" recall the art-damaged sound collages and virtuoso fingerpicking of John Fahey's groundbreaking 1968 effort, THE VOICE OF THE TURTLE.
