  • Pianist and composer Peter Kater assembled an all-star cast of Native American and New Age musicians to record this collection of driving, jazz-tinged pop songs. Drum machines and Tony Levin's masterful bass render almost every track danceable, while artful use of flutes, whistles, and reed instruments revisit the Southwestern themes explored in more depth in Kater's collaborations with R. Carlos Nakai.
  • The omnipresence of flutes brings an airiness to the otherwise bass-heavy tracks, and provides an opportunity to compare their varying timbres and styles. Nakai sings and plays flute on several songs, as does Grammy-winner Mary Youngblood. Ara Tokatlian, of the Argentinean group Arco Iris, plays both Moxenio and Pincullo flute. Robert Mirabal and Chenoa Egawa sing and chant, while multi-instrumentalist Paul McCandless (of Oregon and Bela Fleck's band) contributes tasteful oboe and saxophone. Fans of both Kater's light jazz and his Native American experimentations will find much to enjoy here.
