  • Like its cinematic counterpart, the ROBOTS soundtrack calls up an eclectic batch of characters to generate a quirky and fun tone. Among the most notable names on the album are neo-soul singer Ricky Fante, who uses a vocoder to give the horn-soaked "Shine" a mechanized sheen. Hip-hop fans get to bob their heads to Chingy, as he peppers "Right Thurr" with jittery rhymes, and then returns alongside Houston, Nate Dogg, and I-20 on the electro-funk-flavored "I Like That."
  • Contributing to the power-pop quotient is Fountains of Wayne, whose choppy fuzz guitar and boatloads of harmonies turn "Tell Me What You Already Did" into a delicious hybrid of the Kinks and the Knack. Gomez steps away from their customary jam-band nuances to channel the Lemonheads on the upbeat "Silence," and the Ali Dee remix of James Brown's "Get Up Offa That Thing" really makes you want to follow the song's directions, but "Robot City" truly captures the essence of the film. For this tune, composer John Powell teamed up with Blue Man Group to create a piece that seamlessly shifts between whimsical classical passages, funky interludes, and a surf-rock swagger, while BMG's percussion gives this instrumental an appropriately playful vibe.
