By the time GREATEST HITS VOLUME I came out in 1979, Rod Stewart had made the transformation from being a raspy-throated singer/songwriter with a penchant for R&B to becoming an international sex symbol whose appetite for dating models was as keen as his love of soul music. In the middle of chasing women and enjoying the high life, Stewart managed to hit the studio and create his own brand of raunch and roll. Rod the Mod's playful sexual approach at this time was either in-your-face ("Hot Legs," "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy") or overflowing with romantic overtures ("Tonight's The Night," "You're In My Heart"). Along the way, Stewart cultivated a golden ear for on-the-money interpretations (Cat Stevens' "The First Cut Is The Deepest") and occasionally penned a wonderfully poignant song ("The Killing Of Georgie").
