This 20-track collection of early blues, country, folk, and spirituals that supposedly influenced gritty, American, Southern rock outfit Kings of Leon (who for one reason or another are only popular in the U.K.), offers up a pretty solid overview of rustic, pre-rock & roll porch jams from the likes of Howlin' Wolf ("Killing Floor"), Big Bill Broonzy ("Key to the Highway"), Lightnin' Hopkins ("Baby, Please Don't Go"), and the Carter Family ("No Depression in Heaven") that plays like an extended version of the soundtrack for O Brother Where Art Thou?. ~ James Christopher Monger
