Performer Notes
Link Wray was one of rock & roll's first great guitar heroes, as well as the guy who showed how much attitude and swagger a song could have without singing a note. Wray's greatest sides were instrumentals like "Rumble," "Raw-Hide," and "Jack the Ripper," built around Wray's fuzzy, growling tone, sinister sustained notes, and occasional barrages of fast picking. Rumbles, Raw-Hides, Jacks & Aces: 1956-62 is an anthology that collects the most memorable moments from Wray's most musically fertile period of the late '50s through early '60s. Comprising a whopping 65 tracks, the first half features Wray's best and best-known sides as a frontman, while the second part features hits and rarities, with Wray sitting in with the likes of Marvin Rainwater, Bunker Hill, Doug Wray, Vernon Wray, and many more.
