Ireland's Lisa Hannigan is best known for being Damien Rice's singing partner, but with SEA SEW she finally leaves that role behind and steps out into the spotlight with an album of her own songs. Fans of Rice won't feel too dismayed, though, as many of the songs mine roughly similar sonic territory--sparse, acoustic arrangements, fragile, folk-like melodies, and hushed, wispy vocal delivery dominate the album, but Hannigan clearly has her own songwriting voice as well.
