Performer Notes
  • Original score composed and conducted by John Williams with cello solos by Yo-Yo Ma.
  • Includes liner notes by Jean-Jacques Annaud.
  • Personnel: Yo-Yo Ma (cello).
  • Audio Mixer: Shawn Murphy.
  • Unknown Contributor Role: Budd Carr.
  • John Williams' score for Seven Years in Tibet appropriates some Tibetan flourishes, but for the most part is a sweeping symphonic score that fits right into his canon. That's not necessarily a bad thing, since it does deliver the grandeur that Williams fans love, but when compared to Philip Glass' imaginative, unpredictable score for Martin Scorsese's Kundun, it doesn't really soar. ~ Robert Lovering
