Performer Notes

Autopsy includes: Chris Reifert, CHuck Schuldiner.
Commemorating the album's 20th Anniversary, Peaceville Records offers a special 2-CD expanded edition of Autopsy's pivotal debut release, SEVERED SURVIVAL. A seminal act in the early days of extreme metal, the San Francisco-based quartet featured such luminaries as Chris Reifert (Death, Abscess) and Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, Sadus, Death) in its ranks. One of the first American death metal bands as well, Autopsy innovatively fused elements of doom, thrash, and punk in its original and influential repertoire. Special features on this edition include two brand-new songs, five live tracks, eight previously unreleased demo cuts, and the tracks from the band's rare 1991 EP, RETRIBUTION FOR THE DEAD.

Professional Reviews

Record Collector (magazine) (p.87) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Horrendously graphic and sounding as if it was recorded underwater, Autopsy's debut album is as shocking today as it was on first release....It's essential."
