  • Fusing the spiritual richness and beauty of ancient Sikh chants--written by late 15th-century composer Guru Nanak (the first guru of the Sikhs)--with lush, contemporary Enya-esque production values, Snatam Kaur Khalsa's music is both spiritually enriching and moving, within a pop-music framework. It's a style not unlike Natalie Merchant or Sarah McLachlan, but it is rooted in more ancient traditions. This is the follow-up to Kaur Khalsa's premiere album, PREM, and features more of that work's elegant, simple compositions. Kaur's haunting voice answers herself in the chorus creating a hypnotizing, soothing, repetitive mantra-folk sound, over a rich accompaniment of tablas, acoustic guitar, warm gushing synth pads, and piano. In addition to its soothing meditative qualities, this album is also the perfect choice for relaxing by the pool, or slow dancing by a late night fire.
