  • Sometimes derisively labeled as "the hick Weird Al Yankovic," Cledus T. Judd is in reality one in a long and distinguished line of proudly cornball country music comedians. Judd's most obvious forerunner is Ben Colder, the faux-drunken alter ego of famed Western film actor/cowboy vocalist/certified pop one-hit wonder Sheb Wooley (he of HIGH NOON and "Flying Purple People Eater" fame), whose spot-on parodies of '60s Nashville hits inspired the legendary TV series HEE HAW. Like Colder and HEE HAW, Judd often tempers his outright silliness with sharp musicianship and a keen eye for socio-cultural detail. On A SIX PACK OF JUDD, the singer hilariously and affectionately lambastes the continuing homogenization of modern country music, the middle-class redneck aesthetic, and America's quick-fix consumer culture, all under the guise of good 'ol boy "aw shucks" frivolity.
