Performer Notes
  • The Holloways: Alfie Jackson (guitars); Rob Skipper (fiddle); Bryn Fowler (bass guitar); Dave Danger (cajon drums).
  • Additional personnel: Tristan Ivemy (organ); Simon Hale (keyboards).
  • A hit in the band's native England when released in 2006, the debut album from the Holloways, SO THIS IS GREAT BRITAIN?, finally made it stateside in the summer of 2007. Mining a vein of affable garage rock that runs on both guts and sweet pop smarts, the Holloways take a page from the Clash as well as from contemporaries like the Arctic Monkeys. The Holloways seldom posture, though. This is music made for a sunny summer's day; it has an off-the-cuff feel that's loose-limbed, genuine, and fun. The lead-off title track is a case in point, as is the singalong charm of "Generator." The album is recommended for those who like their rock simple and aiming to please.
