  • Mary Mary still know how to make an entrance, opening their sixth album with a raucous stomper -- the album's title track -- that samples the Jackson 5's "Mama's Pearl." The following track, "Something Bigger," increases the energy with super-charged marching-band percussion. When Warryn Campbell's production work isn't quite as in-the-face, the duo does not exactly dull their message; the sleek midtempo track "Blind," for instance," isn't merely humble but verbally self-lacerating. Although "Walking" sounds surprisingly punchless for a track that replays elements of Crystal Waters' club classic "Gypsy Woman," it just about towers over the album's second half, which sags with plaintively strummed acoustic guitars and churning electric guitars. These relatively dry songs lack the edge of the album's first half. One exception is the closing "Homecoming Glory," rich folk-soul gospel with striking harmonies. ~ Andy Kellman
Professional Reviews
Billboard (p.28) - "Whether fusing gospel and soul with everything from R&B/hip-hop to dance, pop, jazz and even folk, Mary Mary never forgets to weave in an empowering, uplifting message that lingers long after the last note has sounded."
