  • Though Patsy Cline is best known for her ballads, STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN proves that the late country superstar also had a rollicking rocking side. Released to commemorate the 45th anniversary of her 1963 plane crash, this outstanding 31-track anthology by the always reliable European reissue label Bear Family Records focuses mostly on Cline's less well-known uptempo performances. As justifiably legendary as ballads like "She's Got You" and "Sweet Dreams" are, Cline was equally skilled at honky tonk and even early rock & roll, possessing a tough, flirty tone that powers tunes like the terrific title track and her superior takes on the early rock hit "Stupid Cupid" and Hank Williams's standard "Lovesick Blues." The only one of Cline's canonical hits here is her 1954 breakout "Walkin' After Midnight," making STOP, LOOK AND LISTEN an excellent second purchase after a solid overview of her hits and best-known songs.
