Taking dubstep back to the days when it was more austere, more techno, more headphone, and much more bleak, this third volume of the Tectonic Plates series is closer to Burial than Skrillex and brings reminders of the industrial tech-step label No U-Turn if your steppin' goes back that far. Highlights come from Japanese producer Goth-Trad with his kinetic machine called "Mach" plus the London-based OM Unit, who combine the bliss of a Zen garden with the bleepy paranoia of the video game Bezerk on "Preshah." From the thunderous Kryptic Minds opener "The Talisman" to the glitchy epic closer "Rogue State" from 2562, the set presents tasteful bass music in many different flavors, so it's best to recommend this to fans of Pinch, Scorn, Grooverider, Kode9, and such instead of those kids hanging out at the mall in their bright, garish "Where's the Drop!?!"
