Today Is the Day: Steve Austin (vocals, guitar, sampler); Chris Reeser (bass instrument, electronics); Mikey Hyde (drum, percussion).
All of the elements in Today Is The Day's unique sound came together on this 1997 masterpiece: whining double guitar leads, shifting rhythms, and singer/bandleader Steve Austin's incredible banshee voice. The latter is a force of nature--finding common ground between Rob Halford and Royal Trux's Jennifer Herrema--but the album succeeds mostly on the strength of its production and songs. Simultaneously raw and detailed production touches keeps TEMPLE OF THE MORNING STAR close to stoner metal territory, but the lofty compositional standards insure that this is not a drone-out-on-a-riff album.
