One of the ultimate singing cowboys, Tex Ritter made more than 75 westerns and charted 25 country hits in his extraordinary career, which spanned several decades. Such a run is difficult to sum up adequately over the course of one disc, but Varese Sarabande's collection, HIS BEST, does so admirably. Many Ritter classics are here--such as "High Noon," "(I Dreamed of a) Hill-Billy Heaven," and "Green Grow the Lilacs"--and some lesser known gems as well ("The Gallows Pole" and "The Boll Weevil"). While not as comprehensive as HIGH NOON: 1942-1952, certainly the finest Ritter compilation on the market, HIS BEST is a worthy substitute.
