Florida-born and Los Angeles-raised, singer Dorris Henderson had already made something of a name for herself on the LA folk-club scene when she decided to try her luck in England. Arriving in 1965, in the midst of the folk revival, she secured a residency on a BBC show and teamed up with a talented young guitarist named John Renbourn. Their first album together (THERE YOU GO!) was released on Columbia that year, ahead of Renbourn's eponymous solo debut.
With its mixture of traditional British and North American folk songs and contemporary numbers by Cyril Tawney, Ewan MacColl, and Bob Dylan, the album is cited by many folk aficionados as one of the recorded highlights of the '60s folk boom. In 1966, a second album followed on Fontana. Renbourn established his solo career with the same year's masterly ANOTHER MONDAY album. Henderson's subsequent activities included a stint with Trevor Lucas in Eclection (sadly yielding only one single) as well as occasional reunion gigs with Renbourn. The 1999 Big Beat reissue of THERE YOU GO! adds both sides of a 1965 single.
