A part of Vanguard Records' excellent VISIONARIES series, this 2007 compilation presents a selection of fine tracks from Larry Coryell's 1960s and '70s albums for the label. Highlights of the collection include "The Jam with Albert," which finds the revered jazz guitarist leaning heavily towards the Hendrix-like rock side of his sound, and the blazing "Birdfingers," a fast-paced tune that showcases Coryell's stunning six-string dexterity. Though not as comprehensive as the earlier IMPROVISATIONS two-disc set, VISIONARIES still stands out as one of the best Coryell anthologies available.
