Performer Notes
  • Metro's 2003 compilation Best of the Early Years gathers 20 highlights Status Quo recorded between 1967 and 1971. This means that it's missing their hard-rocking '70s hits, but it does have the psychedelic classic "Pictures of Matchstick Men" and traces their evolution from psych-rockers to hard-rockers quite well. Other compilations chronicle this era in more detail, but this is a well-chosen, well-annotated compilation that offers a good cross-section of highlights from the early Quo at a good price. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
