  • Coming off an unprecedented year in which Michael Jackson turned superstar with the album THRILLER, he regrouped with his brothers to record VICTORY in 1984. Working with David Paich and Jeff and Steve Porcaro of Toto assured an upfront pop record that reunited all six Jacksons, including Jermaine who had left a few years earlier to pursue a solo career.
  • The public's mania for all things Michael vaulted the album to number four on the Billboard charts and even secured a gold record for "State of Shock," a slamming duet between Michael and Mick Jagger. "Torture" became another Top 20 hit, but the standouts are the sweeter songs, particularly Michael's meditative, whispered "Be Not Always," the plaintive cry of "One More Chance," and the funky affirmation "We Can Change the World." The final two songs, "The Hurt" and "Body," are textbook examples of the best that '80s musical instrumentation had to offer.
