Performer Notes
  • Liner Note Authors: Jere Real; Scott Schinder.
  • Recording information: 1966-1967.
  • The Left Banke's debut was a terrific if largely unrecognized effort of classy baroque pop, featuring entirely original material. The two hit title tracks were standouts, but nearly every other cut was in the same league, the glowing arrangements intertwining with their beautiful harmonies, at times rocking fairly hard. Every song was reissued on the There's Gonna Be a Storm anthology, making it unnecessary to locate a pricey copy of the original vinyl. ~ Richie Unterberger
Professional Reviews
Spin (p.80) - "[T]heir music was often as gorgeous and lushly arranged as that of the Beatles or Zombies."

Mojo (Publisher) (p.112) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "Most of their personality was down to the gifted teen prodigy composer/keyboardist, Michael Brown, and the gorgeous high vocals of Steve Martin..."

Uncut (magazine) (p.88) - 4 stars out of 5 -- "[A] rare depth, a kind of baroque, uber, melodic vein opened up by RUBBER SOUL, shines through on just about every cut."
