Stripping the harshness and overstated intensity out of emo-oriented indie rock while maintaining the style's namesake emotional directness, the second album by Maritime makes a virtue of calm and elegance. Even upbeat tracks like "Don't Say You Don't" and the almost jaunty "We Don't Think, We Know" have a sense of restraint that even some of their best-known contemporaries can't match. Maritime, comprised of ex-members of first-generation emo bands the Dismemberment Plan and the Promise Ring, have the melodic craft and intelligence of their previous bands, tempered with the wisdom of maturity.
