Quaintly bizarre glam rock aliens Zolar X took Bowie's interstellar shtick and ran with it all the way to cult status in the late 1970s, even playing shows with similarly glittery acts like the New York Dolls and Jobriath. What set them apart from their peers, however, was a strict adherence to character at all times. These guys were space aliens, so they looked and acted like space aliens. All the time.
The act must have caught Dead Kennedys legend Jello Biafra's eye, because here's 2007 and a new album from a reformed Zolar X courtesy of Biafra's Alternative Tentacles label. In truth, the sound is more earthbound than one would think, recalling a more slickly produced Ramones or a day-glo Sabbath. That said, it's probably a good idea to give X MARKS THE SPOT a listen before they head back into space for another 30 years.
