  • Dolorean have never exactly been a happy bunch, but following the relatively sunny climes of VIOLENCE IN THE SNOWY FIELDS, their sadcore folk-rock takes a bleaker turn on YOU CAN'T WIN. Plaintive, lonely vocals and reflective acoustic guitars and keyboards paint pictures of emotional disconnection and heartache, hardly a new thing for the band, but the production ventures further afield than before, exploring sonic textures beyond the rootsy, Neil Young/Will Oldham template of previous Dolorean albums.
Professional Reviews
CMJ (p.43) - "[I]nstantly satisfying. The album floats along in a Pink Floyd manner, dragging along dreary memories of loss and failure."

No Depression (p.116) - "The songs murmur a quiet desolation; the band improvises around them elegantly, furtively. Amos is especially eloquent..."

No Depression (p.88) - "[T]he tension between lyrical brooding and musical reverie yields a near-cinematic catharsis."
