Composer Wu Fei has written orchestral and choral works as well as pieces for chamber ensembles, film, and dance performance. Fei's YUAN, released on John Zorn's Tzadik label, includes works for various ensembles performing variously on percussion, piano, traditional Chinese instruments, and guzheng (a specialty of Fei's). This challenging yet always lyrical and intriguing set features, among others, Stephen Drury on piano and Chen Tao on the dizi.
