A collaborative project between members of the reggae outfit Groundation, drummer Leroy Wallace, and jazz guitarist Will Bernard, Rockamovya traffics in dub, roots rock, ska, and subtle touches of jazz, funk, and pop (which blend surprisingly well with a reggae palette). At times reminiscent of Burning Spear or Black Uhuru, but with Bernard's guitar pulling the music into the 21st century, Rockamovya mix things up on cuts like "Take the Night" and "Brown Fish Stew," but never stray too far from their Jamaican roots. A modern, gently experimental take on deep roots reggae, Rockamovya should please reggae fans of many stripes.
