This unique exercise programme has been designed by gynaecologist and pelvic floor expert Dr Bruce Crawford as a gentle and safe way for women to get thier bodies back in shape after childbirth and surgery. Bladder & bowel weakness and lack of intimate sensation are common problems that are caused by a weakened pelvic floor, and if left untreated the problem will only become worse and worse, even leading to prolapse as the muscles are no longer strong enough to support the organs. However you can get your pelvic floor back in shape.
The pelvic floor is instrinsically linked to the abdominal muscles, so to help keep the pelvic floor strong you must have strong abs too. Pilates has long been the ultimate form of exercise for strengthening the core muscles, so it makes sense to adapt the basic Pilates principles for effective pelvic floor exercise.
Pfilates focuses on 10 key movements, which you are guided through in the DVD as well as in the pictorial guide included with this kit. Each movement begins with a series of repetitions before a hold phase, then finally a pulse phase at the peak of pelvic floor engagement. This method allows you to really work those muscles without over-exerting or damaging them. The DVD includes 3 individual workouts, beginning, intermediate and advanced, so that you can increase the intensity of exercise gradually as your muscles strengthen. Over time you will improve endurance, co-ordination, balance and, most importantly, the strength of your core abdominals and pelvic floor muscles.
