I have used these family counters in my school chaplaincy role for children to show me what their family looks like. They select characters to represent family members and place them on a piece of paper in position to illustrate who lives where/with whom. I convert the pieces to stick figures. I then draw around the groupings in a loose 'Venn diagram'. We name the people by writing the names next to the stick figures. I then have a visual diagram of the family. Family trees can be very complex with many families having step siblings/parents. This is a fun activity and creates lots of discussion. The counters give flexibility until the picture is complete.
